Stargaze was proposed and completed for the first annual AIA Passageways competition; an initiative to bring design interventions to the underused alleyways of downtown Chattanooga.
Stargaze brings our focus back to the night sky. Through a series of interconnected lights, it brings the celestial bodies which get lost in the city back into our view. A series of beacons are suspended above an alley supported by tension cables and anchored eyes creating the interconnecting rays.
Each day, the programming scans the night sky and identifies a new star to bring to each individual node.
The color in that node is then graded based on data pulled from a NASA database containing characteristics of each star. Subtly reflecting light during the day and slowly animating through the night, Stargaze provides a passageway that is both contemplative and playful bringing light into a popular thoroughfare downtown
